Overview
This position coordinates the permit application and issuance process and reviews plans, specifications, and calculations for conformance to building codes adopted by the City of Yakima. The examiner advises the public and staff on engineering, fire and life safety, mechanical, and plumbing aspects of the uniform codes. Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Six months of general office work
- Two years of related experience in building permits, code compliance, fire or building inspection, or skilled trades such as carpentry, HVAC, or plumbing
- A degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field may substitute for the required work experience
- ICBO or ICC Building or Residential Plans Examiner Certificate may substitute for one year of work experience
- Must obtain and maintain a valid First Aid/CPR certificate and an ICBO or ICC Plans Examiner certification within six months of appointment
