Overview

The City of Yakima is hiring a Purchasing Assistant to perform complex clerical and administrative tasks within the Purchasing division. The role involves processing requisitions and purchase orders, maintaining the central supply store, reviewing contracts for compliance, and assisting with surplus property auctions and the bidding process. Work is performed with considerable latitude for independent judgment and reviewed through observation, customer input, and results. Requirements

• Any combination of experience equivalent to two years of clerical experience
• At least one year of experience in inventory control, direct vendor or contractor contact, or purchasing
• Must possess and maintain or obtain a First Aid/CPR certificate within six months of appointment
• Ability to interpret complex guidelines and regulations
• Ability to exercise independent judgment in making responsible decisions
